I went to Ulta today to buy my favorite heat-protectant spray, and visited their nail polish display and saw they now carry the brand Zoya. I've been buying my OPI nail polishes at Ulta, and I've never seen Zoya at Ulta before. I was really curious with these nail polish since I've read reviews about them online.

    First Look

I only saw 3 different colors of Zoya's Matte Velvet Lacquer line: turquoise, chartreuse, and this hot pink that's featured in this first impression post. I was going to get the turquoise, but since pink is my favorite color, I went with it. At first, I was impressed how quick this nail polish dried. I think after 15 seconds, you're good to go. This nail polish has no glitter, no sheen, nor shimmer -- it is matte after all. It looks as if your nails are painted with watercolor, and I think that's the best way to describe its texture, too. You can buy these for $7.00 at Ulta stores.

    Quality

You should expect streaks from this nail polish since it is matte. I'm not surprised when I brushed the excess product on the opening of the bottle, I noticed that the product became a little thicker than the first time I saw it. But then again, it is dries quickly so I think it's safe to say that when you leave the bottle open, the product inside will thicken. This type of nail polish (matte) are new to me so I didn't really know what to expect. I'm not disappointed because I really like the color. I think it is a perfect color for summer! I wouldn't expect nail polishes like these to last like the regular nail polishes. These could be easily removed by scratching it, which I wouldn't recommend. Zoya mentioned in their website:
"Matte Nail Polish color by Zoya is intended to be worn with a base coat, but not a top coat or speed dryer of any kind. Due to the unique matte Zoya Matte Nail Polish color is not as long-wearing as traditional nail color. A completely clean, dry nail surface yields the best results for matte nail color wear. For best results make sure to always prepare nail with Zoya Remove (3-in-1 nail polish remover, nail plate cleaner and new color prep) prior to applying color."

    Packaging

I don't know about you, but I'm loving Zoya's packaging. I think they look sophisticated compare to OPI. I think they will be easier to store than the OPI nail polishes since the packaging has a square bottom. I'm not sure how the packaging of these Matte Velvet Lacquer compare with the traditional Zoya nail polishes. However, I do know that the latter are in a clear glass instead of the matte finish this nail polish bottle has.

    Overall

If you read my review (all of it), I would recommend Zoya's Matte nail polish since you are already aware of the comparison between this and the regular nail polishes. I think this is a whole different kind of nail polish -- different effect, vibrancy, and quality. The bottle is pretty big and it has the same amount as the OPI nail polishes (0.5 fl oz). I paid $7.00 for this; it is $1.50 cheaper than OPI, but online at zoya.com, they sell this for $8.50 (same as OPI), so I would recommend buying them at Ulta. The only downside with this is since Ulta just launched Zoya, they will most likely have limited shades.
